Federal Government of Nigeria has Decided on New Minimum Wage
The Federal Government
will take a last position on the new national minimum wage on Monday after a
broadened gathering of every key partner including state governors, the
Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, has said.
Ngige said yesterday
that the no-work, no-pay work approach was started during the tenure of
previous president Olusegun Obasanjo. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had
penultimate Wednesday endorsed the usage of the white paper on the arrangement.
Ngige disclosed to
State House correspondents yesterday that the arrangement was passed by the
National Assembly in 2004 and that Obasanjo consented to it.
"The issue of
no-work, no-pay is anything but another thing, it is a current law gone by the
National Assembly in 2004 and consented to by Obasanjo.
The law secures the employers
and employee. We are simply re-resounding it. It is nothing correctional or
new, it has been around since," he said.
After the gathering, he
said President Muhammadu Buhari would transmit a bill on the new national minimum
wage to the National Assembly for thought and entry. He said the National
Assembly would arrange an open hearing on the bill to enable the general
population opinion to the draft law.
